As self-service technology continues to transform public services across Asia, lottery operators are increasingly seeking automated solutions that improve accuracy, reduce waiting times, and enhance the customer experience. One memorable project for Masung began when a delegation of professionals from South Korea visited our Shenzhen branch to explore the possibility of developing an integrated lottery ticket printing kiosk.
The visiting team, representing their company, was planning to deploy a large number of self-service lottery terminals to streamline their operation and boost the revenue. During the meeting to discuss with our engineering & technical team, they explained the challenges of the traditional lottery purchasing process: Customers typically selected lottery numbers on a mobile application installed on their smartphones but still had to manually fill in an official betting slip before receiving the final lottery ticket. Manual marking often resulted in inaccurate selections, incomplete circles, or unreadable betting slips, increasing the possibility of rejected tickets and customer complaints.
To solve this problem, the Korean team envisioned a fully automated workflow that could seamlessly connect smartphone-selected lottery numbers with physical lottery slip printing. Their goal was to create a kiosk capable of scanning a QR code generated by the official lottery app, automatically printing the selected numbers onto an official lottery betting slip, and allowing the completed slip to be processed into a valid lottery ticket.
After listening carefully to the customer's requirements, Masung's engineering & technical team worked through the entire operation step by step. In the proposed workflow, the customer first selects their preferred lottery numbers in the official mobile application. Once confirmed, the app encrypts the selected numbers into a unique QR code displayed on the smartphone screen.
The customer then simply presents the QR code to the kiosk's fixed-mount barcode scanner. The scanner instantly decodes the encrypted betting information and transmits the data to the kiosk's internal verification system. Once the lottery information is successfully verified, the kiosk prompts the customer to insert a blank official lottery betting slip into the printing slot.
At this stage, the thermal transfer printer automatically prints precise marks on the official betting slip, filling in exactly the same lottery numbers that the customer selected in the mobile application. Because the numbers are machine-printed instead of manually marked, the betting slip is significantly more accurate, eliminating errors caused by incomplete or incorrectly filled circles.
Finally, the completed betting slip is submitted to an authorized lottery retailer or service counter, where it is processed through the official lottery terminal to generate the final legally valid lottery ticket. The entire process provides a faster, more reliable, and user-friendly purchasing experience while reducing operational errors for lottery operators.
After thoroughly evaluating the project requirements, Masung recommended a complete embedded hardware solution tailored for the customer's self-service kiosk. The proposed configuration included the MS-7710S Fixed-Mount QR Code Scanner Module for rapid barcode recognition, the TS102 and TS101 Thermal Transfer Printer for accurately printing official lottery betting slips, and the TITO400 and NP80C Thermal Printer for printing receipts, transaction records, or other supporting documents. Eventually, the team chose the MS-7710S QR code scanner module and the TS102 thermal transfer embedded printer.
Because the project involved a potentially large deployment volume, Masung also committed to providing customized firmware, communication protocols, and feature enhancements to ensure seamless integration with the customer's kiosk software and lottery management system. Our engineering team worked closely with the customer to optimize scanning performance, improve print accuracy, and streamline the overall user experience.
The South Korean team was impressed by Masung's comprehensive product portfolio, in-house R&D capabilities, and willingness to customize both hardware and software. They said they expect scalable self-service lottery automation printing in the future, backed by Masung Group.
