A Direct Engineering Discussion for a Specific Garment Tag Printing Requirement

In early August, 2026, the logistics leadership team from SHEIN visited Masung Intelligent Equipment Co., Ltd., Masung Group's branch in Shenzhen, to discuss a specific printing requirement for their clothing manufacturing and identification applications.

Rather than looking for a standard off-the-shelf printer, the SHEIN team was exploring whether Masung could develop a garment tag printer designed around their exclusive application requirements. The discussion therefore focused on more than basic printing performance. The two teams reviewed the expected tag format, printing requirements, operating environment, and potential equipment configuration.

Masung's design and engineering teams joined the technical discussions directly. This allowed the customer to communicate application requirements with the people responsible for product design and development, helping both sides evaluate the feasibility of a customized solution at an early stage.

Turning a Customer Requirement into a Printer Design

Garment tags can carry important information throughout the apparel supply chain, including product identification, size information, barcodes, and other variable content. Depending on the workflow, the printer may need to produce tags quickly while maintaining consistent print quality and supporting different information on different sides of the tag.

Based on the discussions with SHEIN, Masung's engineering team began working on a dedicated solution: the MS-X20 garment tag printer.

The development process focused on adapting the printer to the customer's specific application rather than simply modifying an existing general-purpose printer. The engineering team evaluated the required printing functions and designed the MS-X20 around the practical requirements of garment tag production operations.

This project also demonstrated the value of direct communication between the customer and the manufacturer's technical team. By discussing the application at the engineering level, potential requirements could be considered during product development instead of being addressed only after a standard product had already been selected.

Double-Sided Printing for Garment Tags

One of the key features of the MS-X20 is its double-sided printing capability.

For clothing application, information may need to be presented on both sides of a tag. Double-sided printing can help consolidate information onto a single tag while supporting different content layouts or data on each side.

This capability is particularly useful for customized garment tags that may contain a combination of product information, identification details, barcodes, logistics information, or other variable data.

By incorporating double-sided printing into the MS-X20, Masung developed a solution specifically suited to workflows where both sides of the garment tag need to be printed as part of the production process.

High-Speed Printing for Efficient Operations

Speed was another important consideration in the development of the MS-X20.

Garment manufacturing can involve large numbers of tags that need to be produced within relatively short processing cycles. Printing equipment therefore needs to keep pace with operational requirements without creating unnecessary bottlenecks.

The MS-X20 features high-speed printing, helping improve printing efficiency when producing garment tags in an apparel-related workflow.

For applications involving variable information, the combination of high-speed printing and automated data processing can help streamline tag production and reduce manual intervention. The exact printing workflow can be configured according to the customer's application and system environment.

Designed with Global Standards in Mind

Another important characteristic of the MS-X20 is its focus on global standard compliance.

For an international apparel and logistics operation, printing equipment may need to operate within established technical and product requirements across different markets and supply-chain environments. Compliance considerations are therefore an important part of equipment development.

Masung incorporated global standard requirements into the development of the MS-X20, providing a foundation for its use in professional garment tag printing applications.

This approach also reflects Masung's broader experience in developing printing equipment for overseas markets, where product design needs to consider not only printing performance but also integration, reliability, and applicable standards.

From Early-August Discussion to Late-August Delivery

The project moved from initial technical discussion to product development within the same month.

In early August, the SHEIN logistics leadership team visited Masung's Shenzhen branch to discuss the feasibility of developing an exclusive garment tag printing solution. Following the technical discussions, Masung's design and engineering teams worked on the MS-X20 development.

By late August, the MS-X20 garment tag printer had been developed and successfully delivered to SHEIN.

The short development cycle demonstrates how a direct manufacturer–customer engineering workflow can support customized equipment projects. Instead of relying solely on a fixed catalogue product, the two sides were able to communicate the application requirements directly and move towards a purpose-built solution.

A Practical Example of Masung's OEM & ODM Capability

The MS-X20 project is also an example of Masung's approach to OEM and ODM printer development.

For customers with specialized printing requirements, the development process can involve application analysis, mechanical design, electronic configuration, firmware and software considerations, printing performance, and customized equipment functions. Direct communication with Masung's engineers helps translate practical operating requirements into technical specifications.

The successful development and delivery of the MS-X20 also adds another example to Masung's experience in customized printing equipment for professional applications.

From the initial visit in early August to successful delivery in late August, the project followed a clear path: customer requirement → technical discussion → engineering development → customized garment tag printer → delivery.

For apparel manufacturers and other businesses requiring specialized garment tag printing, this case illustrates how close cooperation with an experienced printer manufacturer can turn a specific application requirement into a dedicated printing solution.
